What brings you to fight?

You want to help people, you can’t trust the people you help.

You wonder if they are just scamming your good nature.

You don’t want your government to be helping everyone because you feel they will just scam you.

Now, why is it, what is it that makes you trust some people and not others? You are shown, you are given enormous amounts of evidence that some people are genuinely evil, that they are indeed taking advantage not only of the system but of you specifically by taking money away from the government and pushing policies that make things harder for you. These are the rich and powerful people whose corruption is shown on a regular basis. Yet, you seem to still trust that these specific people of whom you do know a fair amount about, are actually decent individuals and should be trusted and that all that evidence must be a lie.

On the other hand, there are these other large amounts of unknown poor people, with a wide range of situations, some will be citizens of your country, some refugees, some immigrants of one kind or another. There would also be a mix of abilities, genders, sexualities, ethnicities, etc. These people, of whom you know nothing about, you must assume are bad people who should not be trusted. Statistically, there would be an amount of everything, good and bad and everything in between, yet, the safe bet seems to be to assume they are all bad.

Why do you throw all the working-class people who need help away and trust the rich? What is it that makes you think that the rich and powerful is one of your people and those other people are not one of your people?

If someone needs a home, I am happy for them to get it. I genuinely do not care what their situation is. If someone does not need a home, that is, someone who already has a home, I do not want our shared resources to be used to prioritise them having a second home. I am happy for people to get all the help they need, to study, to work, to eat, to be healthy, to enjoy life, to be content and experience copious amounts of happiness. Whilst I do not agree with people holding beliefs that I consider to be immoral, I am still able to accept and be happy for every single individual to be given this same right, the right to have access to all those things, every single person, everywhere, now and in the future.

So I ask you again, why are you so concerned whether someone has cheated the system or not to get the one right they should have anyway, when you are being shown that there are people who are most definitely manipulating the system to hoard enormous amounts of wealth. To convince you that somehow they earned it and they deserve it, whilst you are struggling, your struggle is temporary even though every person in your family has always struggled, it must be a matter of time before you also become one of the super rich and powerful people, not like those poor people who are obviously cheating and don’t deserve basic rights.

Again, you cannot cheat a system to provide you with the basic rights you should have anyway. Those are your rights, you are allowed to live in wherever town in the world that you want, we don’t actually own the world, you are entitled to healthcare, an education, to joy, to all these things, you are most definitely morally entitled to all of them. You do not need to do anything to deserve them and even more, it does not matter what you do, you still deserve all of them, even if you steal and accumulate extraordinary amounts of wealth, you should still be granted all your basic rights.

Please accept these human rights, please think about this. And realise who benefits from the position you take on this. If you continue to support the rich, they get richer, the world does have resources for us to share, you know that we throw away an absurd amount of food every day, you know that there are several empty homes, you know that this is possible, so if you can get past your fear and maybe hate for those who are different from you, who are surely not all that different, then we have a chance.

All we need to do is simply stop letting a very few people gather and control all the resources. We need to put a cap on wealth, I am not suggesting where exactly this needs to be, that’s why we have experts, wherever is needed so we can ensure that everyone gets to meet their rights, and we need to ban salary concentration, the act of taking your salary, of paying you peanuts and those in charge getting larger and larger salaries. We need to control the wealth and distribute things fairly.

This won’t stop capitalism, it won’t change the system, but it may give us an opportunity to breath and put ourselves in a position where we don’t have to fight over our basic human rights, our basic needs, so we can talk about how to fix genuine problems, how to move forward with our society.
